Hello! I’m Michael Whitehawk, a proud, life-long Bobcat. My journey at Texas State began in 2001, when I found a home in the Department of Sociology and ultimately earned two degrees here. Since joining the faculty full-time in 2012, it’s been my privilege to learn alongside and support countless talented students from all walks of life.

If you’re curious about people and the patterns that make up our collective experience, sociology can be your home too. As your departmental academic advisor, I’m here to help you navigate your academic experience, whether you’re selecting courses, considering a major or minor, exploring study abroad, or preparing for your next steps. Advising is a collaborative process: together, we’ll work to clarify degree requirements, set meaningful goals, and address any challenges along the way.

I invite you to stop by the Department of Sociology or schedule an appointment. No question is too small or too big. Let’s connect and shape an exhilarating path.

Gerry Rodriguez

Hello everyone, my name is Gerry Rodriguez, and I am the Administrative Assistant II for the Department of Sociology here at Texas State University. My desk is located at THH 449, on the 4th floor of Trauth-Huffman Hall (THH), on the faculty side.
If you are ever in need of any assistance, I am happy to help. That includes registration issues, lost and found, helping with overrides, and answering questions about the Applied Sociology Internship. I went through the internship program as well, so I am happy to discuss with you my personal experiences and help guide you on yours.
I also keep snacks and candy at my desk so feel free to stop by for a treat if you are nearby. I look forward to seeing and hearing from y’all!
