Eligibility and Application

To be eligible for the SOAR program, students must be Sociology majors who have received a B or better in at least one required Sociology research course (Statistics-SOCI 3307, Data Analysis-SOCI 3318, Quantitative Research-SOCI 4308, and/or Qualitative Research-SOCI 4309). Three students will be selected for the 2026-2027 cohort. Interested students need to be able to commit to meeting for an hour every other week with faculty mentors in the spring 2027 semester, as well as working outside of the meetings on research and professional development tasks.

 

A small office space, necessary resources, and a small stipend will be provided to each SOAR Scholars student. Students will also gain experience conducting research and presenting their findings at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference. Students will receive professional development training in preparation for graduate studies.

 

The SOAR program is consistent with our university mission to create applied research opportunities for undergraduate students. The SOAR program is seeking applications from Sociology students who meet the eligibility requirements.
